Australia’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program Boosts Energy Storage

From May 2026, Australia’s home-battery incentive uses capacity-based STC tiers.

Australia’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program uses small-scale technology certificates (STCs) to lower the upfront cost of eligible home-battery installations. From 1 May 2026, the incentive is tiered by usable battery capacity rather than applying the same factor to every kilowatt-hour.

According to the Clean Energy Regulator, the factor applies at 100% up to 14 kWh, 60% for capacity above 14 kWh through 28 kWh, and 15% for capacity above 28 kWh through 50 kWh. The applicable rebate depends on the installation date, eligibility and the current STC settings.
